The National Taiwan Space Organization intends to launch the first weather satellite of its own production in the next batch, Taiwan News reported on November 6.

The TRITON satellite has been in development for eight years. The testing of the satellite has been completed and is now being tested.

The satellite will be launched from a spaceport in French Guiana. The satellite will be sent there in January 2023. It will be launched into orbit by the Vega C launch vehicle developed by the French Arianespace.

TRITON will be the second satellite built on the island after the Earth remote sensing apparatus Formosat-5. With its help, weather forecasters in Taiwan intend to more accurately predict the formation and movement of typhoons around the island.

Recall that typhoons are a serious threat to the economy of the island, although they often bring relief during a drought, as was the case this year.
